Game Fishing Q & A
If I become a member of JGFA, do I have to release all the fish that I catch ?
No. It is not compulsory for JGFA members to catch & release or tag & release. However, if all the fishes caught were taken home, we would undoubtedly see an increase in the number of fishermen and in their techniques which may eventually endanger the conservation of the resources. We want primarily to start thinking of placing bag limits on the fish species, which is presently practiced in the United States.
What is game fishing?
It is what we would like to explain as placing the main focus on enjoying the process of fishing based on common angling rules. In a way, it is the same as sport fishing. For us to achieve this, we must fundamentally and thoroughly understand the rules, but the main prerequisite is to observe and practice good manners and sportsmanship.
Can application for Japan Records be made on any fishes?
Fish subject to the line class division for Japan records are limited to fish species approved by JGFA. To see what species of fish are included, refer to the " List of Japan Records" page in the web site. On the other hand, all types of fish are applicable in the All-Tackle Japan Record Division.
Can any angler submit applications for Japan Records ?
All applications are limited only to members of JGFA. Even if you hooked a record breaking fish, you cannot apply for a record unless you are a member of JGFA. It is a non-profit organization operated independently by the members themselves so establishing certain restrictions is approriate.
What is line class ?
For instance, in boxing you have different weight classes, such as flyweight, lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight, etc. If you caught a fish weighing the same ( not the size ) with a weak line ( not the thickness of the line ) and with a strong line, the difference in the difficulty of landing the fish is quite clear. Therefore, the line class is divided at what weight is required to break the line when pulled. We have a total of 11 classes, beginning with the line class of 1 kg ( weight where line breaks ) up to 60 kg by class.
